Welcome!

This blog has been a long time coming. It has been thought about by various people for many years.

The basic aim is to do exactly what this blog is called ‘Promoting and Protecting Croydon Arts’

We have wondered for several years why Croydon does not seem to value its existing arts organisations.

Principally the proffessional arts organisations we mean are the Fairfield Halls and the Warehouse Theatre – as distinct entities and building based.

We are not going to exclude the host of voluntary Arts organisations, but we feel that if the Town is serious about the Arts, it must start with promoting and protecting its proffessional building based arts organisations first.

We start from the position that both the Fairfield Halls and the Warehouse Theatre are in a very difficult place financially. Our beloved Croydon Council currently provides £0.00 in revenue support to these organisations. As landlord of the Fairfield Halls it does give a small grant for repairs (but you would expect that from the landlord surely?)

The Fairfield Halls will run out of money in less than 2 years (It is eating its reserves at quite a rate). The Warehouse Theatre is on the edge right now. (This information is publicly available and gathered from the accounts of both organisations).

Croydon Council says it supports the Arts, but does not.

So we want to change that position for starters!
