Why the lack of detail?

We blogged about the good news for Fairfield getting £1million a year for the next 10 years for building maintenance… but are quite surprised at the lack of detail and the lack of comment from the Fairfield Halls.

Key questions that now arise:

  • Why has the Fairfield asked for such a large amount of public money without any detailed plans in place
  • Why has the Council granted such a large sum of money to Fairfield without having any detailed plans in place
  • When will the money be handed over to the Fairfield
  • Will the Fairfield have to close for any of the works to be carried out
  • Is the Council or is Fairfield to determine what works will be carried out and in what order
  • How much of the money allocated will be spent on ‘landlord’ responsibilities and how much on requirements of the Fairfield board and charity

Apathy. Improvements must be aligned to what benefits the arts will see as well. Its not about leaking roofs but ideas that are hand in hand to show off Croydon as a major arts centre in which so much has been dedicated behind the scenes. The bricks and motor side decision makers side must be accountable to demonstrate business case wise that investment is tangibly improving the lot of the arts visitor. That i suspect is the rub to explain the delay in any response ie the vision and values are no where to be seen and if standards drop a lot of hard work elsewhere will suffer. PR
